Here is a photo of Ralph Foster, racing on the Midwest tracks back in 1939. 

Ralph just missed racing at the Indy 500, because of WWII,
flying fighter planes instead.  Ralph is the 4th one from the left
and is living in Garden Grove, California at the age of 90. 

He was the Midwest Champ back in 1940,
winning some 70 or more races that year.
